'Claude Did It'

There is a running joke among the developers in my circle. Whenever someone shares a piece of cool code or an impressive new feature, the response is: "Claude must have done that".

It's a light-hearted response, a bit of coder-to-coder banter that acknowledges the elephant in the room on just how much these tools have integrated into our daily workflow. But under the surface, it has started to feel like more than just a joke. It got me thinking about the shifting perception of our career.

There seems to be a silent assumption—not just among peers, but from a wider perspective—that the "human" element of development is just a footnote. The "Claude Did It" phrase suggests a world where development is no longer seen as a struggle. It raises a curious question: as AI tools get better at doing the work, how do we ensure the value of the person doesn't get lost in the automation?
